Details:
Here is my 270mm shot of Comet LoveJoy R1 from Saturday morning at JBSPO in Yellow Springs, Ohio. The Comet was 2.5 degrees South East of 3rd magnitude Star 65 Delta Herculis....Easily visible in Binoculars, looks awesome through any telescope, even telephotos lens capture it well,...but it is very low on the horizon and you only have about an 1 hour of viewing before the light of Dawn sets in!!!! Comet Lovejoy 2013 R1 tail is about 2.5 degrees long, well off the field in this image. The comet is hovering around 5.5 magnitude. This is 14 x 2 minutes = 28 minute total exposure with a Modified (Baader) Canon Rebel XSI & a Canon 70mm-300mm lens, set to 270mm Lens, set to F5.6, and @ ISO 800.

Congrats on producing this beautiful image John! I observed Comet Lovejoy in freezing temperatures here in the Portland/Sandy area about a week ago, but only through binoculars and photographed it only with a standard camera lens about a month ago while it was high up in Bootes/Corona Borealis. I need to make the effort to attach the camera to my Nexstar 5i Cassegrain and track it with a telephoto lens. Our freezing temperatures inhibit this here in the NW US now. But your report and image inspires me now to at least site my telescope onto it. Thank you for your concise current report.
