Details:
Mapping the lunar surface from Rome using an 18-cm diameter Mak-Cassegrain telescope during a cold evening with variable seeing throughout the observations. Mosaic of three images acquired on January 26, 2026, using a Player One Ceres 462 M CMOS camera. Viewed from north (top) to south of Plato (still immersed in shadows emerging from the terminator), Vallis Alpes, Mare Frigoris, Egede, Aristoteles, Eudoxus, Cassini, Aristillus, Montes Caucasus, Archimedes, Montes Apenninus, Rima Hadley, Eratosthenes, and the Apennine Bench Formation (ABF). Several volcanic constructs are also visible as small domes. The Apennine Bench Formation is an important geological unit on the Moon, generally interpreted as a volcanic, KREEP-rich, high-albedo plains deposit located in the southeast portion of the Imbrium Basin.
