Details:
Monday night's Auroral display in western Montana was disappointing in contrast what folks saw in Europe and even other places within the USA. However, last night' display (1/20/2026) was much, much better.
These images were captured in the Bitterroot Valley east of the City of Hamilton. The Bitterroot Mountains are on the left with the Sapphire Mountains on the right. You might be able to pick out the Big Dipper standing proud on its handle on the right side of these images.
To the naked eye, you could just make out a green glow on the northern horizon, but the camera's sensor picked up whole lot more detail in 15 to 23 second exposures at ISO 1600. The camera was a Sony A6000 equipped with a TTArtisan 10mm f/2.0 wide angle lens.
