Details:
I took a spectrum of the comet on Oct 12+13. I used my own homebuilt unit with a 300L/mm grating and took 48x1min exposures. The spectrum is dominated by the C2 Swan-band emission lines. Also one can find CN and NH2. The indicated spectral lines are preliminary since I am no expert. The overall spectrum seems to be normal, although comet spectra do vary. It could develop further when the comet approaches the sun. It is noteworthy that two strong lines at 5577 and 6300 Angstrom are dominated by airglow from the telluric atmosphere. To obtain your own spectrum of the comet is great fun and gives another dimension to the observations.
