Details:
Prominences are common during this stage of the solar cycle, but the larger ones rarely remain stable for very long. This very large prominence held on for three days before it finally detached from the solar limb on Monday evening. Passing clouds on Earth mimicked the clouds of plasma on the sun, briefly blurring the boundary between the two. As above, so below.
