Details:
This SpaceX Starship rocket was able to create an Ionospheric Hole as it flew by Puerto Rico on Oct 13 2025. The red colored tail is the result of the molecules like water and carbon dioxide, interacting with the upper atmosphere. This exhaust rapidly converts the naturally occurring atomic oxygen ions in the F-region of the ionosphere into molecular ions, which then recombine much faster with electrons, removing ionization and creating a local "hole". This process releases energy in the form of a red light, similar to an aurora. Here is the link to the video: https://youtu.be/gAlIX7calmM?si=ewDmBzgY29igX3Ui
