Details:
This image captures a series of phases of the Moon, whose appearance has been profoundly altered by atmospheric phenomena. Our atmosphere, acting as a complex lens, distorts the light coming from the Moon. This phenomenon, known as atmospheric refraction, bends the light rays, creating the distorted and elongated shapes seen in some of the moons represented in the image. Additionally, the intense red color that tints many of these moons is due to Rayleigh scattering, the same process that makes the sky blue during the day and fiery at sunrise and sunset.
