Details:
On August 3 just before midnight I went outside and was taken by surprise to see another STEVE so soon. This was a bright, smooth mauve arc dominating the sky from horizon to horizon, like the first one I remember seeing in the 1980s. The motion of its texture was easily visible overhead, racing from east to west. A modest green aurora lit the north–this was several hours before the G3 event. After 15 minutes STEVE was fading overhead, but I saw and photographed some ghostly pickets. They lasted a couple of minutes, and STEVE gradually disappeared into the west.
