Details:
These days Mercury is making a nice evening apparition. But hurry up if you want to see it! Until December 12 its brightness will still be around magnitude 0. In the following days Mercury will grow fainter fast and its elongation from the sun will decrease as well. Observers at lower latitudes have the best chances to get a glimpse of the elusive planet. Our smartphone image shows Mercury above the Canary island El Hierro. It was shot on December 7 at 18:59 UT from the neighboring island La Gomera at 28 degrees N.
