Details:
Yesterday evening, and again this morning, we had enhanced coloration in the sky above the position of the sun. This evening was my first chance to image the coloration, and here's the result. This was shot at 6:05 pm CST, 16 minutes after sunset. There is a pronounced dome of purple light over the sun's position just below the horizon. I boosted the saturation to bring it out.
Whether fires or the first possible arrival of Tonga aerosols (assuming any have made it to mid-northern latitudes) are responsible is not known.
