At 5.26 pm on Monday there was a spectacular letterbox sunset display as the Sun descended between layers of cloud close to the horizon behind Hospital Hill as shown in the accompanying x30 speed time-lapse animation and still image pairs. A letterbox sunset occurs when the Sun just briefly appears though a narrow rectangular gap either between layers of cloud close to the horizon or between a single layer of cloud and the underlying horizon.
