Serendipitous Alignment
On March 4th Mars was next to the easily recognizable star cluster of the Pleiades (M45) in Taurus (The Bull). When out capturing some images of this close conjunction with The Red Planet I realized the serendipitous alignment of a couple of other coloured stars. To the left, in line with Mars, was Aldebaran (Eye of the Bull), a red giant star about 65 lyr away in the open star cluster of The Hyades of Taurus. Further left was Betelgeuse, the red super giant in Orion (The Hunter) located about 624 lyr away. The line drawn by these three celestial objects was unmistakable. What separated them visually were their apparent magnitudes (0.45, 0.85 & 0.98 respectively), but their orangey red colour was what attracted my eye, along with this chance alignment.
Equipment Used: Canon 60D, Sigma 10-20mm at ISO 4000, 10 seconds, f/5.6 (cropped) and Canon 6D, Canon 200mm at ISO 3200, 8 seconds, f/3.5 (cropped)
