While they do not occur everyday, when you do, they are very short lived and of course require cloudless skies. These events usual last only 5 to 7 minutes, about 10 to 15 minutes before sunrise or about the same time after sunset. They usually have crepuscular rays and/or an orange-pink-purple hue that temporarily brighten even when twilight should be fading in the western skies.
