Details:
On 6th December 2015, 3 minutes before sunrise in Brisbane, Australia, I videoed the International Space Station passing by the planet Jupiter. I used calsky.com for a prediction of where to stand in order to see the ISS pass directly in front of the planet. The path width for the transit was only 170 metres wide (as opposed to 3km wide to see it transit the Moon).
I set up the telescope about 30m south of the line in a park in Rochedale, south Brisbane. Turns out I was about 400 metres away from the actual centreline of transit, resulting in the ISS luckily just being in frame. It shows how precise location, timing, and prediction need to be to be in the right place at the right time!
This is a composite image of the frames that had the ISS in them.
Canon EOS 600D, 1.4x teleconverter, Sky-Watcher 12" dobsonian telescope, ISO1600, 1/1600 sec exposures at 30 frames/sec
