Details:
Comet Lovejoy C/2014 Q2 has cleared the Horizon for us Northern Hemisphere observers..Its bright ~ 5.5 mag and now ~13 degrees above the southern Horizon at midnight.
Comet Lovejoy Q2 just cleared the trees in the south at JBSPO. I captured a wide field image with a 300mm lens tracking on the Comet's Nucleus, The tail is there but not visible visually, it takes a truly dark sky for the faint ion tail. The photos show multiple tails and a weird twisting or kink in the tail too!
Went out last night to try for it visually, before the Moonlight interferes with observations for the next couple of weeks. It was barely visible to the unaided eye with averted vision, but I have too much light pollution to see it easily, but it does show up well in Binoculars!
Here are my capture details..
Canon 6D DSLR &
300mm lens for comet with twisting tail, tracking nucleus for 24minute exposure.
