Details:
Comet Lovejoy C/2014 Q2 has cleared the Horizon for us Northern Hemisphere observers..Its bright ~ 5.5 mag and now ~13 degrees above the southern Horizon at midnight. Then finally after midnight when it was highest in the south, I could nab it with my homemade 16" scope..tracked on the nucleus for 10 minutes to see tail detail...., the tail is there but not visible visually, it takes a truly dark sky for the faint ion tail. Went out last night to try for it visually, before the Moonlight interferes with observations for the next couple of weeks. It was barely visible to the unaided eye with averted vision, but I have too much light pollution to see it easily, but it does show up well in Binoculars! Here are my capture details.. Canon 6D DSLR & Homemade 16" scope for Nucleus close-up 630 second exposure. Best Regards, John Chumack www.galacticimages.com
