Details:
Auroras in Europe are not common since the geomagnetic pole is on the other side of the world, in Canada: We need at least a G2 and at that level the colors are mainly red/purple and visible only in photography. That was the case last night (Aug12), since the subsequent G3 phase began at daylight in our timezone. Anyway we were lucky that the G2 phase started earlier than predicted so during our night, but after moonset. Precisely the aurora began around 2UT, with a reddish/pink phase (possibly with a green band below) peaking around 3UT and a purple phase (possibly due to mixing with twilight) peaking around 4UT. Though the colors were visible only in photography, I could see by naked eye a slight brightening at North horizon. Nice to see the aurora with the Milky Way and the Mars-Jupiter conjunction in a very clear sky. Too bad I didn't get in photo a Perseid meteor (various satellites instead) but we saw some. The photos are done with White Balance 6000K (called "cloudy" on Canon), which is around the same of typical LCDs displays, in order to represent colors pretty faithfully.
