Details:
Read about newly discovered Comet Nishimura C/2023 P1 on Spaceweather.com. So I decided to take on the challenge of capturing it although my observatory roof slides east and usually precludes capturing low altitude pre-dawn objects. However, I was thrilled this morning when not only did Comet Nishimura show up but also the Eskimo Nebula just 18 arc minutes away in the same field!! I took 2-minute LRGB images (binned 3x3) to accelerate the capture since I was imaging after the beginning of astronomical twilight! I do not know what percentage of the 14.5-inch telescope aperture actually captured comet photons but it is safe to say much of the scope got a nice view of the roof gable! A thin ion tail also showed up! As well as distant galaxy PGC 21100! You don't know unless you try!
