Not a great pic, but on a misty moonlit night, this proves that you can pick up the aurora here in Norfolk at 52N with a digital camera at levels of geomagnetic activity which normally would be associated with views much further north. The block graph shows the c. 0130 UTC spike in the effect on the earth's magnetic field and the pic was taken at this time. You can just pick out the thin paler pillars in the overall red hue through the mist. Having waited eight years I have now manage to obtain images of the aurora 4 times in six weeks.
