Details:
On Friday 24th an unexpected pair of faint diverging crepuscular rays appeared close to the horizon at 6.13 pm and expanded upwards to produce a beautiful display in which the prominent arm reached both Moon and Venus engulfing them in a strong magenta glow. This amazing spectacle, which peaked at 6.15 pm lasted for less than five minutes before vanishing into thin air. Four close-up views of the Moon and Venus show how the sky temporarily changed colour as the ray reached their vicinity! Three minutes later a photograph taken in the direction of Christmas Pass shows Jupiter setting behind cloud in front of fading crepuscular rays. Cameras: Hand-held and tripod-mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 in sunset mode.
