Details:
The weekend had just started on this Friday at 4 PM, when the usual green Aurora band appeared above the northern horizon just when it became dark enough (the polar night ended just a few days ago). Around 6:30 PM we witnessed the first bright display of the night above this piece of spinning ice in the Utsjoki river. When this first show faded we decided to change the scenery and went up in the fells in an area where just a few small birch trees live. The moon had just risen, casting a beautiful glow on the snowy landscape. The Aurora made another beautiful appearance with even some red beams! After this show faded, we drove back home knowing we could go back out at any time to the frozen river - and we didn't even have time to get inside. We had to run down to the river as soon as we parked the car for another bright display. What a night again here in Utsjoki in the far north of Finnish Lapland!
