Details:
This is the Eastern part of the huge Veil Nebula complex in Cygnus. The Veil like all planetary nebulae is the remnants of an exploding star. It's about 2100 light years away and 110 light years in size. If we could see it with the naked eye, it would span the size of 6 full moons! The reddish colored gas consists of ionized Hydrogen, and the blue/teal areas are ionized oxygen.
