Details:
In the UK sadly we did not get to see the eclipse, but we did get to see the blue moon.
In an image taken just as it was rising, atmospheric effects created a blue/green upper limb and a red lower limb.
I have come across green rims on sun and moon in the past, but this is the first time I have seen the rim with blue in it.
For explanations of why the upper and lower limbs can have colour, try a web search using the terms "green rim atmospheric optics".
The first photo shows the original photo. The second shows an enlargement of the rim. The third photo, using the same equipment later in the evening shows no colour on the limbs, demonstrating that colours were not artefacts from the equipment.
It was really great to see the blue rim and it seemed very apt that it happened to be on the "blue moon".
All images taken on a 7D body with 400mm lens. All images were taken handheld.
