Details:
Afternoon rain and evening cloud prevented the Full Super Blue Moonrise from being observed from Mutare. However the sky gradually started to clear between 9 and 10 pm to reveal this moon emerging from behind breaking cloud above the Cecil Kop Nature Reserve (second picture). During the next twenty minutes or so, low cloud was replaced by a thin layer of very high cloud through which the bright Full Moon shone to produce the variety of beautiful halos shown in the composite. As a result of fortuitous filtering of the moonlight one these was pale blue for a short time producing a very befitting backdrop to the so called Full Super Blue Moon (lead image). By 11 pm the sky was almost completely clear allowing the Moon to be photographed in all its glory (last photograph). Camera: Hand-held Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 in sunset and night scene modes with x 60 zoom magnification.
