On 17 October the temperature in Mutare reached a record 40 degrees centigrade and the atmosphere again contained smoke haze from burning vegetation. This time it filtered just enough light from the setting Sun to produce a bright magenta sunset. This was captured in a series of 66 close-up photographs over an interval of four minutes (see thumbnail mosaic). This was reduced to 33 to keep the file size of the accompanying animation below 5 MB. Unlike in my previous post of 17 October (id=140017), in which the Sun almost faded before setting, it remained clearly visible until the very last portion disappeared below the horizon. The photographs were taken using a tripod mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 camera in sunset scene mode and x60 zoom magnification
