Eclipse. Charleston, South Carolina. First off, I run the fbook page, Aspiring Adirondack 46ers, so if you hike, come join up and hike the ADKs. We're in the path of the NEXT eclipse in the USA in 2024... We had clouds in the sky in South Carolina, and overcast and terrible prospects all the way up till about 30 seconds before totality – and the sky opened up to allow the blue sky through. For about three minutes! It was all we needed. I was in a church courtyard with about four other people, and we were basically having a religious experience. (I mean, in the romantic sense. In other words- we were crazy and had goosebumps and the night lights came on and lightning and thunder was behind us for dramatic effect.) Sky turned to night. Black. There was a glowing ring of fire in the sky for a minute and a half. Entire sky went black. And oddly enough, I've experienced this before. And it was still shocking. It's about a half an hour after the fact and I'm still shaking. About a half a block away a woman was standing on her porch of a beautiful manicured South Carolina house. When the clouds came in really thick I could hear her screaming to her neighbors – remove your eclipse shades - you can see it really great! It doesn't even hurt your eyes! Here's hoping. There's nothing I can say ... that could top these photos. Now I have to get back on the bike that I rented and ride it all the way back to the airport. That won't be fun but, it beats a day at work. Ha ha.
