Details:
My wife and I fulfilled lifelong dreams to see a total eclipse of the sun. This photo was just a quick shot with a hand-held Sony DSC RX 100 II point-and-shoot camera to document the period of totality. It is over-exposed, but not unlike what we saw with the naked eye. The three spikes of corona, especially the one at two o'clock in the image, were the most striking thing to me during totality. Leaving more sophisticated camera gear at home was a trade-off, but allowed me to just enjoy the moment and view. We saw Venus, but I only realized later that Regulus shows up in the photo to the lower left of the eclipsed sun.
