My first and I think a successful attempt to shoot Red Sprites 🙂
On 18.8.2017 my friend and I choose to photograph the night sky in the Low Tatras, I suddenly periferously saw a small flash over the western horizon, so I thought the storm is coming.
I quickly found out that the storm is far away and theoretically it could also produce some sprites, so I made the first picture and it was there! : D
I immediately shifted the 85mm lens and let it shoot in the direction of it, and in a few minutes, I saw this bright sprite with a naked eye and I was lucky enough that my camera captured it as well 🙂
Its brightness is approximately -6.7 mag. And was located about 510 km far above southeast Germany.
In the foreground under the sprites you can see the main ridge of Low Tatras, (Chabenec 1995 m) and Kotliska (1937 m ) on the left.
I had a great luck that I witnessed one of the brightest sprites but it's said, fortune favours the prepared 🙂
If you like it, feel free to comment or share 🙂
