Details:
Waning moon and earthshine, star motion, lunar geography and streaks in long exposures
I took one of my better earthshine photos early this morning using ISO-800 and the maximum exposure time of two seconds (1). I shot photos and video for about 20 minutes, enough time to observe star motion relative to the moon. Here we see motion of 111 Tauri over 1 and 10 minutes (2).
Using ISO-100 and 1/8th sec, I captured one of my favorite lunar features at sunset: Promontory Laplace (3). This feature has been labeled along with the promontory on the opposite side of Sinus Iridum. Several craters and Mons La Hire have also been labeled. The wrinkle ridge extending from this mountain towards Promontory Heraclides does not have an obvious name.
I have no tracking device and use a basic tripod with bubble level. Therefore faint stars are only seen in the form of streaks in long exposure shots. The last photograph (4) is an unedited version of (1), only cropped to show 111 Tauri at magnitude 5.00 and another star with magnitude 8.65.
All photos were taken with a Nikon Coolpix P600. Only the first photo was edited for light and color to enhance earthshine and to reduce the brightness of the sunlit side.
