These photographs complement those presented in yesterday’s post entitled Crescent Moon Above Anvil Cloud At Sunset (id=133432). They were taken half an hour earlier and show the same anvil cloud when it was rat-shaped and still developing in the heat of the late afternoon sun (first image). What was interesting, apart from the unusual shape, was the development of a small upside-down Cumulus on the underside of the cloud head (second image) from which delicate curtains of Virga could be seen descending and evaporating (third image). For those of you who may have been disappointed not to see a close-up of the three day old crescent moon in yesterday’s post, the last image captured at 18.09, not too far from the head of the anvil cloud, shows that it was already clearly visible despite the bright afternoon sun. The pictures were taken using a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 camera in intelligent auto mode with up to x60 zoom magnification.
