Details:
On the night of 12 - 13 August five planets and the waxing gibbous Moon were all visible from Mutare. First the planets Jupiter (top), Mercury (middle) and Venus (bottom) were observed descending towards Christmas Pass in isosceles triangular formation (first photo). An hour after midnight Saturn (middle right), Mars (lower left) and Antares (upper left) formed an equilateral triangle between the Moon and Hospital Hill near Chikanga Township (second photo). As the Moon continued to descend a beautiful close up (third photo) was obtained. Between 01.37 and 01. 40 am it finally disappeared below the horizon behind Chikanga. This was captured in a time-lapse sequence of twenty photographs to produce the accompanying animation. The images are all manual exposures of from 1 to 4 seconds each at ISO 1600 taken with a tripod mounted Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ60 camera.
