Details:
The night of Oct 12-13, 2015, Canadian Thanksgiving, saw a fine aurora display which started about midnight as a well-defined bright but quiescent arc, the classic auroral oval across my northern horizon as seen from southern Alberta. Before I could get the camera going, the arc was already breaking up into curtains and streamers as a substorm hit. The display continued for over 2 hours of shooting and was still going when I stopped and turned in for the night! These frames are some of the 420 I shot for a time-lapse sequence. They show the occasional red streamers and the large-scale patchiness toward the end of the display when large areas of the sky were turning off and on.
