not certain what the light to the left of the moon is. I did not notice when shooting this, but in all likelihood its an aircraft

I think the smudge might be a star, possibly Omicron Leonis.

That smudge is the comet C/2014 Q1 Panstarrs. I had to click on the picture to see the large version to see it. I was looking at the possible star to the left of the Moon before.
