Amazingly clear skies for a change across Wisconsin gave me the urge to stick the camera out pointed north all night. Milwaukee Wisconsin Area first known Photogenic Aurora at a Kp2! (judging by camera brightness, this would have been also faintly visible to the naked eye)... ....not the most spectacular as far as Aurora pictures are concerned... Amazing however as far as latitude is concerned! Electron Flux abnormalities and exceptional clear skies were the only two variables that caused me to go "give it a shot"... Also at about "half a moon"- it seems to filter the yellow light pollution out better in the sky making any green more discernible to the camera. Any more moon than this however and it then washes anything green out into just a blue-green horizon unless you have very strong aurora. This occurred at 1:17 am and lasted only about 20 frames. No Pillars or substorms (which would make sense given ACE and Ovation values). What is interesting is that even so, the little arc here actually got pretty high relative to my location in southern WI at such minimal values. (Near a G1 in elevation above horizon. (Proton arc? Don't understand the definition of Proton Auroras well yet) Attached also shows the disturbed electrons and a shot at AuroraMAX in Yellowknife showing that the Polar Aurora was indeed active at this time! =) Aurora borealis to the extreme!
