Details:
I was able to observe C/2024 G3 (ATLAS) this morning using my ES 102ED telescope on an alt-az mount. I fabricated an extended dew shield to reduce solar glare and used a 16mm Nagler eyepiece outfitted with an orange filter. Angle offsets from the sun put me right on the comet. The nucleus is very condensed with a short tail visible. This is a very challenging object! It is small and, as of this afternoon, only 6° from the sun. Be careful! Here’s a quick iPhone 14 shot of the view!
