Details:
Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks with Jupiter and the 15% illuminated Moon 21 degrees to the northeast of the comet casting a greenish white hue on the animation as twilight skies turned dark on the evening of 2024 April 11. As one can see even a Moon that is only 15% illuminated and only 21 degrees from the comet cast a greenish white hue on the comet that dims the comets coma and tail in pictures and binoculars. To make things worse the comet dimmed from magnitude 4.4 from the previous evening to magnitude 4.8 this evening as calculated from software that is not affected by the Moonshine. As the Moon moves farther away from the comet over the next week the view thru binoculars should become much better. The comet will be about 3 degrees below Jupiter for the next several evenings and then 4 degrees to the lower left of Jupiter for the next week.
