Solar Eclipse Diamond Ring With Rubies(Proms) During the partial phases of the eclipse on April 8th, I was relatively relaxed ... taking photos with the Nikon D810, periodically viewing the event with eclipse grasses, checking on the telescope, setting up the GoPro, etc. But as it neared totality, things got very intense. So much so that at totality my wife had to remind me to look up. And, man, I'm glad she did ... the corona was breathtaking and the diamond ring effect as the sun made its appearance from behind the moon was totally awe inspiring! But when I checked my photos once I got home, I realized I hadn't captured what my eyes had seen because the sun/moon combo had slipped out of frame unbeknownst to me. That was quite a real disappointment, let me tell you. What about on the other end ... when the moon was just about to completely cover the sun ... you might ask? Well, when I checked those photos the night i got home, I quickly dismissed them because they seemed badly overexposed. The D300 that I had jury rigged to the telescope had caught it but the images were not useable either because it was not properly focused or had slipped out of focus. So, I was totally bummed out! Until today, that is. I had a second look at those D810 images that I thought were beyond hope and got a pleasant surprise when I tried processing them! Thanks to Photoshop and the Nik Collection software they were salvageable! At least enough to give me this image,
