Details:
I had just finished taking some images of the Sun and was about to power down the mount when I decided to have another look through the eyepiece. All of a sudden the whole area around the large sunspot AR2109 lit up…I rushed to put the camera back onto the solar scope to capture the moment. It only lasted a couple of minutes from 10.43am to 10.50am AEST, and then it died back down…it was all very exciting! I think I may have just witnessed my first direct view of a solar flare ☺ My images were taken with a Lunt 80mm solar telescope and Canon 7D camera with a 2x Barlow lens. I used the Monochrome picture style setting on the camera for the black and white image to try and bring out the bright light that was around the sunspot.
