strange but also wonderful and beautiful clouds in combination with maybe some light refraction from the sun on the oppisite side

Totally sorry if my subject description is way to long. But I have no idea what kind of thing I really saw (first picture). The sun was almost below the horizon but still some nice strong yellow/orange light emerged upward. That light was kind of blocked not that high above the horizon by clouds (second picture). On the oppposite side I saw this. So, now is my question: are these just clouds in a straight line converging into one point or does it has to do something with light refraction? I do live on the countryside and the landscape is totally flat, so no obstructions or anything. In the past days we had heavy thunderstorms with lots of rain and hail.
So, if anybody knows the answer please let me know cause it's the first time I saw something like this. It was such a beautiful sunset running from the west side of the house to the east side to watch these mysterious cloudy-refraction-stuff-things... Thanks a lot!
