I heard of the sun flares some days ago and thought I would have a look using my 650-1300 Samyang lens on Sony a58.

Shane, you need more than to just point your camera at the sun and shoot - you will fry your sensor. Please find some articles on photographing the sun. Hope to see future posts of some outstanding photos of flares and other solar activity.
