About an hour after lunch today we observed this exciting 22 degree solar halo in the orchard to the east of Thomas Jefferson's mansion, Monticello (Pretor-Pinney 2011: 120)! It lasted for about 10 minutes and was then obscured by clouds. I wish I had a better picture than this lousy cell phone pic; the colors of the rainbow were brighter than you can see here.
