Details:
I was out last night at Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park to do some Milky Way timelapses. Two cameras were set up and already going through their sequences. I was setting up my Canon 5D3 to do night panorama and while doing test shot, I noticed this strange yet familiar pinkish glow towards the north. I checked the test frames that were taken prior to this and the glow was not there a few minutes before and there were also some movement. We got aurora!!! The first time I captured aurora in Yosemite was back in July 2012 with an X1.4 flare arriving and causing G2-level geomagnetic storm. This time, there was no flare, but upon checking the condition, the earth's interplanetary magnetic field was pointing south and geomagnetic activity just hit Kp4. The aurora activity lasted about 20 minutes or so and disappeared. It was a nice surprise nonetheless!
