Details:
At this time of year the evening dark sky will show a faint band of light rising up the western ecliptic. It is the zodiacal light, formed by sunlight reflecting off countless dust particles which are situated on the ecliptic plane. The photo shows the faint triangular shape of the zodiacal light as it rises in the west after the end of astronomical twilight. The bright star seen in the image is the planet Jupiter, in Gemini. The photo was shot from Miġra Ferħa (limits of Rabat, Malta) and is a composite of 5 images (30s at ISO 1600).
