Details:
Two solar flares were detected by my VLF (Very Low Frequency) receiver today (Mar. 12). The VLF signal from Cutler, Maine was strengthened due to what is called a Sudden Ionospheric Disturbance (SID), caused by the solar energy from these two flares.
VLF signals are "bounced" off the ionosphere. Often, when solar flares occur, the ionosphere is affected, causing the change in VLF signal strength.
