Details:
We were in the Yukon for three nights. First two nights were overcast and snowing all night. Third day - beautifully clear morning, overcast afternoon - then miraculously clear sky in the evening at Sundog Retreat north of Whitehorse. Set up our stuff in "Borealis" cabin. Camera images in the first few hours showed faint green glow along the northern horizon, nothing visible to the naked eye - YET. First quarter Moon lit up the snowy landscape, frozen lake in the foreground, mountains in the distance. Three elk ambled by our cabin in the moonlight. VERY cold outside - single digits Fahrenheit. Was able to monitor space weather with my "Solaris Alpha" Android app, despite weak cell connection. At 12:30 am got an alert from NASA that the interplanetary magnetic field had flipped south. Then - Boom! - within ten minutes ghostly pale green floating curtains appeared over the mountains to the northeast. Pale arc gradually spread over the entire northern quadrant. The display had mostly subsided by 3 am when we went to bed, tired and happy.
