I agree with Martin888, this has definitely had a heavy round of post processing (PhotoScape from EXIF Data), but not so much to alter the colors. Thats likely the fault of the auto white balance setting defaulting to tungsten at night.

Tungsten typically changes the green of the aurora into a somewhat faded or washed out blueish hue. Another detail that further backs this up is that the pinkish/magenta that traces the bottom of the curtains during more active displays is almost completely white in these pictures. Which again, tungsten is known to do.

In addition to the white balance, this has definitely had the contrast boosted, and the shadows/midtones brought down to further enhance the presence of the aurora. I cant criticize since its the artistic right of the photographer to edit his image as he/she pleases.

But yes, as Mikelsaak mentioned, the person who writes the story for the front page certainly missed the mark on this one by a mile. Haha.
