Details:
Seeing the geomagnetic storm going on, I went out to Lake Ellesmere with a friend hoping the clouds would disappear after sunset in order to get a glimpse at the southern lights, and wow what a fantastic show ! I mean Christchurch is at 43S latitude, but the top of the aurora was about 30 degrees high in the sky, and at some point so bright we could see the pink color to the naked eye ! We both waded through sticky slippery mud in order to get near ponds and get reflections in water, and I think it was worth the effort and dirty smelly shoes. ;-)
