Spaceweather has recently been announced on Luhman 16B, one of the pair of brown dwarfs in the 3rd system from the Sun. There appear to be very few images by amateurs of brown dwarfs, and none that I can find of Luhman 16AB, possibly because they are assumed to be too faint. Two days before the announcement of the variations in the illumination of Luhman 16B I made this image of the pair remotely using a 17" telescope at Siding Spring, Australia, part of the iTelescope network. I had chosen this telescope because it is equipped with a CCD camera optimised for use in the near infra-red part of the spectrum and because of its size, which I thought would give me the best chance of detecting the pair. In order to confirm the observation I used another telescope on the site, a 12.5" Ritchey-Chrétien Cassegrain with an SBIG ST-10XME CCD camera and an IR filter and this scope also had no difficulty in imaging them.
