Details:
This single, one-minute exposure of SN 2014J was taken 1/24/14 with an Olympus Zuiko 300mm lens on a Canon 60Da. The SN was clearly visible even on the full image on the camera's 3" LCD screen. The apparent FL of the setup was 480mm, so one doesn't need a long FL optic to see this SN. Comparing with a nearby star shows the SN to be around magnitude 9.5 last evening.
