Details:
This was my last night in Northern Finnish Lapland for the New Year 2014 trip. I was quite disappointed because the weather did not allow me to see all the great aurora storms of the beginning of the year. When spaceweather.com announced the possible arrival of a CME in the night 8 to 9 January, my last night in Lapland, I had to go out and find clear skies. I did find the clear skies about 150km from my base camp in Inari, and saw there wonderful auroras. They were not linked to the above-mentioned CME though. Stay tuned for more photos (next trip March 2014). After these photos I went straight to the airport to catch my flight back home. Well worth a sleepless night!

Thank you for the compliments Andreas. I am always trying to render the photos without too much exaggeration. Not always easy with the aurora, especially the weak ones, because a camera sensor is simply better than the human eye.

Last night the good weather was coming from the north down to the south, with a cold wave of dry air coming from the pole. I traveled to the northernmost tip of Finland to catch the clear skies, and followed the openings in the clouds as they were moving south. This allowed me to capture several good moments of auroras, the stronger being the one with the first photo, around 2am (before that not much was happening).
